Training Program (Coming Soon)
Training Veterans. Saving Animals. Strengthening Communities.
At the core of New Mexico Vets for Pets is a powerful idea: that veterans—when given structure, purpose, and a chance to lead—can transform not just their own lives, but entire systems of care.
Our upcoming Veteran Training Program will provide structured, paid, hands-on experience in grooming, animal handling, field outreach, and eventually veterinary support. The goal: to help veterans build careers in the growing pet services industry while directly improving outcomes for shelter animals, field animals, and the communities we serve.
🎓 What We’re Building
The training program will:
Enroll veterans in paid training cohorts lasting several months
Provide instruction in grooming techniques, hygiene protocols, and trauma-informed handling
Offer hands-on participation in shelter support, field deployment, and clinic prep
Include mentorship, job placement assistance, and potential employment through Vets for Pets or partner agencies
Participants will graduate with a strong resume, confidence, and real-world experience—whether they want to work in grooming salons, mobile rescue operations, veterinary clinics, or public health initiatives.
🪖 Why Veterans?
Veterans bring unmatched discipline, adaptability, and a deep desire to serve. Yet too many leave military service without clear pathways into meaningful civilian careers. Our program addresses that gap—offering structure, connection, and healing through hands-on work with animals.
This program will also open, over time, to other populations in need of second chances, including:
Survivors of domestic violence
Youth aging out of foster care
Women returning from incarceration
Each cohort will be supported by trained staff, professional groomers, and partner veterinarians—ensuring safety, skill development, and growth.
💙 Get Involved
This program will take equipment, instructors, transportation, and stipends—and that means we’ll need your support to launch strong.

When you invest in this program, you’re doing more than funding a class. You’re creating a lifeline—for a veteran, for an animal, for a family in crisis. And you’re helping build a workforce rooted in compassion, discipline, and care.
