Save Them All!

New Mexico 90: Save Them All

Inspired by the Best Friends Animal Society’s “Save Them All” initiative, New Mexico 90 is a bold and compassionate program aimed at revolutionizing animal welfare across New Mexico. Our mission is to help our state’s shelters achieve a 90% positive outcome rate for all animals, ensuring that every pet has a fighting chance to find a loving home.

Why New Mexico Needs Change

Animal welfare in New Mexico faces critical challenges. In 2022 alone, more than 10,000 dogs and cats were euthanized due to overcrowding in shelters. Our state has one of the highest shelter intake rates per capita in the nation, with over 55 animals arriving at shelters every day, and only 35 finding homes or placements. This disparity puts thousands of animals at risk of euthanasia simply due to space constraints. These numbers underscore an urgent need for innovative, humane solutions, and that’s where New Mexico 90 steps in.

Our Program
New Mexico 90 provides at-risk animals with a reprieve from the shelter system. Dogs in our program are assigned to one of four cohorts of 7-10 dogs, where they receive individualized attention, training, and care. They learn basic commands, participate in group play, and benefit from much-needed grooming and enrichment. By offering a break from their shelter environment, we dramatically improve their chances of adoption.

More Than Just Shelter
We don’t just house animals—we prepare them for their forever homes. Each dog in our program is given the tools they need to succeed, including on-leash training, socialization, and the confidence that comes from a structured, caring environment. Through partnerships with organizations like Paws and Stripes, Pets for Vets, and Service Dogs of New Mexico, some of our dogs even go on to become service animals, making a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and others in need.

Our Vision: A No-Kill New Mexico
New Mexico 90 is committed to working alongside local animal welfare departments and private partners to create a sustainable future for the state’s animals. Our 40-kennel facility is designed to be a sanctuary for dogs on the brink of euthanasia, where they can receive the care and attention they need. Our vision is ambitious, but with your support, it’s achievable. We’re working toward a future where every shelter in New Mexico can proudly say, “We’ve saved them all.”
