What We Do—And Why It Matters

At New Mexico Vets for Pets, every service we offer is part of a larger mission: to reduce veteran suicide rates, lower shelter euthanasia numbers, and bring compassionate care to those too often forgotten.

We operate out of our working facility at 500 Wisconsin Street NE and across the city through field services, community events, and shelter partnerships. Our approach is hands-on, flexible, and built for maximum impact with minimal waste.

Here’s what we do:

Grooming Salon
Our public-facing, nonprofit grooming salon is operated entirely to support our mission. Every dollar spent goes back into providing training opportunities for veterans, grooming services for shelter animals, and care for pets living in poverty or crisis.

Field Services
Through partnerships with ACS and Roadrunner Food Bank, we deliver food, water, supplies, and medical triage to animals living with unhoused individuals or low-income families. This mobile outreach allows us to care for animals directly in the field and build trust with their human companions.

Veterinary Care
(Coming Soon)

We are working to open a free spay/neuter and triage clinic at our 500 Wisconsin campus. This clinic will provide essential care to animals from low-income households, as well as support field rescue and shelter efforts.

Shelter Grooming

We are the only nonprofit offering direct grooming services to city shelter animals.  Our grooming team helps prepare dogs for adoption by improving their visibility, hygiene, and comfort–giving them a better chance at finding forever homes. Our public-facing, nonprofit grooming salon is operated entirely to support our mission. Every dollar spent goes back into providing training opportunities for veterans, grooming services for shelter animals, and care for pets living in poverty or crisis.

Pop-Up Events
We participate in and support community Albuquerque Community Service pop-up events that bring resources directly into neighborhoods and encampments. These events—often held in partnership with city and nonprofit agencies—are where we reach animals and humans in their most urgent moments of need.

Training Program
(Coming Soon)

We are developing a full-service training program for veterans, offering paid experience in grooming, animal handling, field outreach, care logistics, and small business management.  The program will support veterans in transition and create a pipeline of skilled, compassionate animal care professionals.
